Updated December 10, 2024: In a posting on X before he suffered back problems, accused CEO killer Luigi Mangione extolled the virtues of “sex, physical fitness and spirituality.”
But after enduring painful spinal surgery, the once-exuberant young man took a dark turn.
Mangione ghosted his family and friends and delved into radical dogma, including the anti-corporate manifesto of Ted Kaczynski, the murderous Unabomber.
On Goodreads, Mangione posted a review of Kaczynski’s manifesto. “It’s easy to quickly and thoughtless write this off as the manifesto of a lunatic,” he wrote. “But it’s simply impossible to ignore how prescient many of his predictions about modern society turned out.”
Mangione has been charged with gunning down United Healthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside the New York Hilton Midtown on December 5th.
Police found a handwritten anti-corporate manifesto in Mangione’s possession yesterday when they arrested him at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania.
“I do apologize for any strife or traumas but it had to be done,” Mangione wrote. “Frankly these parasites had it coming.”
MAGNIONE WAS A PREP SCHOOL VALEDICTORIAN
Mangione grew up in Maryland as the superstar child of a wealthy Italian family with interests in real estate, nursing homes, and other businesses.
He attended Gilman School, a private prep school in Baltimore, and was valedictorian of the Class of 2016. He posted on X about his valedictorian speech:
“I gave my senior speech on this topic: ‘Today, I will be talking to you about the future, about topics ranging from conscious artificial intelligence to human immortality. Likely, you’ll dismiss all this pretty quickly as interesting, but just science fiction…'”
MAGNIONE WAS A BRILLIANT COLLEGE STUDENT
Following high school, Mangione attended the University of Pennsylvania, an elite Ivy League school.
In 2020, after only four years, Mangione earned both a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, with a concentration on AI, and a Master of Science degree in Engineering.
“I feel lucky for my 21st century education,” he wrote on X. “I get to simply download the knowledge of all who came before me, allowing me to stand on their shoulders and ponder new problems they never would’ve had access to.”
MAGNIONE WORKED AS A DATA ENGINEER FOR A CALIFORNIA-BASED COMPANY
According to Mangione’s LinkedIn page, he worked as a Data Engineer III at TrueCar, Inc., based in Santa Monica, California.
His LinkedIn indicates that he was promoted twice, after working on projects such as “migration of largest/most complex data pipeline at TrueCar.”
MAGNIONE MOVED TO HONOLULU
At some point Mangione moved to Hawaii. Starting several months ago, he reportedly fell out of touch with longtime friends.
On his LinkedIn account, the muscular former high school wrestler listed his current home as Honolulu, Hawaii.
MAGNIONE IS A DEEP THINKER AND AVID READER
Mangione is an avid reader, posts ratings and reviews on Goodreads, and delves into complex topics on X.
Before his spinal surgery earlier this year, he exhibited an exuberant outlook. “Encourage natural human interaction,” he wrote on X. “Sex, physical fitness and spirituality.”
But after enduring the life-altering surgery, Mangione began to self-radicalize.
