D4vd is a “target” of the grand jury investigation into the death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, says a petition filed by Los Angeles prosecutors.
The petition identifies the “Target” as David Anthony Burke, whose stage name is D4vd, and states: “Target may be involved in having committed the following criminal offenses…One count of Murder, in violation of Penal Code section 187(a).”
The petition was signed on January 15, 2026, and recently unsealed
The petition successfully sought to compel Dawud Burke, who is D4vd’s father, to travel from his home in Texas to L.A. and testify before the grand jury.
Meanwhile, Los Angeles Magazine reported that an analysis of videos shows D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, visiting high schools and speaking with students, which raises questions about his interactions with children during the time leading up to Celeste’s death.
Celeste was only 13 years old when she was allegedly murdered. Her body turned up in the trunk of a Tesla registered to D4vd that was parked on a street in the Hollywood Hills near the rented home where he lived.

The Los Angeles Police department has been conducting a homicide investigation into the youngster’s gruesome death.
To people in the true crime community, the likelihood that D4vd will face charges comes as no surprise.
Authorities discovered Celeste’s body on September 8, 2025, inside the trunk of a Tesla sedan registered to D4vd, a 20-year-old Los Angeles musician whose legal name is David Anthony Burke.
Burke, who grew up in Queens, scored his first big hit with a song entitled “Romantic Homicide,” which was released in a video with blood-soaked imagery.
The 2023 Telsa in which Celeste’s body turned up had been towed from Bluebird Avenue, a street in the Hollywood Hills near the rented home where D4vd resided.
D4vd was away on tour when the Tesla got hauled to a tow yard in the flats of Hollywood.
A tow yard worker caught a whiff of a foul smell coming from the Tesla’s front trunk. When police looked inside the trunk they found Celeste’s badly decomposing body stuffed inside a black bag.
Investigation by law enforcement and media outlets such as TMZ turned up a wealth of evidence suggesting Celeste was in a romantic relationship with D4vd during the time in which she died, even though she was underage.
The evidence included photos of D4vd and Celeste together at the Hollywood Hills home, images of them on a livestream, multiple photos where they could be seen together, and information that each had a “Shhh” tattoo on the side of a finger.
An unreleased D4vd song entitled “Celeste” was recently posted online. In the video, D4vd can be heard singing lyrics such as “afraid you’ll only love me when undressed” and “I wanna make Cupid suicidal.”
Several of D4vd’s music videos contain violent imagery, including a YouTube video of the song “One More Dance,” in which a body is stuffed into the trunk of a car.
Celeste, a seventh grader, had been living with her family in Lake Elsinore, east of Los Angeles, but was reported missing in 2024 when she was only 13.
The evidence tying her to D4vd suggests that she ran away to be with him, and police believe that prior to her death she was living in the Hollywood Hills home.
For weeks, a grand jury meeting secretly in L.A. has been hearing testimony and weighing evidence about Celeste’s death.
Murder charges against D4vd may well be the next step.
